In my previous post, I shared my journey of creating my first pair of custom sneakers, resulting in the creation of the Mango Sticky Rice Dunks.
The final product received an overwhelming positive response from SoleSavy members and the Garrixon Studio staff. This led to the decision to produce a limited run of the “Mango Sticky Rice” colorway, this time on the Air Max 1.
Eager to get started, I decided to maintain most of the materials used in the Dunks. You can learn more about the meaning behind each materials and colours in my previous post.
The first sample arrived promptly, and immediately I had some feedback to provide. The use of suede on the mudguard proved impractical for long-term durability, so we opted for smooth leather instead.
Shoe Box
The studio granted me the opportunity to design my own box, and I immediately knew I wanted to recreate the appearance of the fruit boxes found in grocery stores.
During mango season, my mom would bring home boxes of mangoes, signaling that we would be enjoying mango sticky rice during that period.

The prototypes:
I intentionally designed the box to have a “bad” and cheesy aesthetic, reminiscent of quickly made designs. It incorporated the color palette of the sneaker and was distressed to mimic the wear and tear these boxes endure during transit.
The Final Product
After weeks and months of anticipation, I finally received my pair in the mail, and they were absolutely stunning.
I take immense pride in these shoes, and I’m blown away by the support from the community. The excitement and willingness of people to purchase a pair of sneakers with a personal story behind them is something I could only have dreamed of.
A big thanks to the fantastic staff at Garrixon Studio for bringing this pair to life, and an even bigger thanks to SoleSavy for providing me with a unique opportunity to fulfill one of my childhood dreams. <3
But I’m not done yet…. 👀
